Day Five

I am going to try and add the Comment button.  Fingers crossed

Another day on the water.  We left Little Machias Bay around 9:45 am.  It rained a little overnight.  The anchorage wasn't the greatest as we swayed quite a lot.  I did enjoy being rocked to sleep though.

The seas were much the same as yesterday but there was a lot of crab or lobster pots out.  We had  to dodge them the whole distance.  I will be adding a picture.

My guess is is that Cora was highly insulted with the diaper.  Today she used the pee pads three times.  I sure hope she continues.

We arrived at Head Harbour Island around 1:00 pm.  It was littered with pots.  We are anchored in "The Cow's Yard".  Not sure where the cows are....underwater????....is that what the pots are for???

We plan on staying here for the weekend.  There is always something to do on the boat.

I do believe there are a few flamingos travelling with us.

Day Four

We planned for a bit longer day for today mainly because the weather was suppose to be good.  It rained overnight and was foggy.  We left Maces Bay at 10 am and headed for Head Harbour.  The seas were quite rough at times, it was cloudy most of the day and the wind was higher than expected.

Although the weather was not great it was still a nice day on the water.  We saw some dolphins off in the distance.  We also saw a cruise ship, not near as sweet as our boat, moving quite slowly.  Unfortunately we did not see any whales.

We decided to stop at Little Machias Bay and anchor out.  We contacted Customs prior to entering the US to ensure we had everything we needed.  When we did enter US waters we were in contact with them again and they were very helpful.  The cell coverage is not very good out here but the Officer did try doing a visual inspection of us and the boat via telephone.

Cora has definitely found her sea legs but she hasn't figured out how to use the pee pads.  I put a diaper on her, she was quite insulted, but she didn't like that either.  Oh well, I will figure out how to train her when I get trained.

The weather is not suppose to be very good for the next few days.  If this is the case we will stay put and wait for good travel days.  We decided we need a few days to relax and enjoy our time on the water.  So likely we won't be moving once we get to Head Harbour for a few days.

I have a few pictures I want to post but right now they are on my phone as my camera had no power.  It's ready to go now.  It is a lot easier to download from the camera that my phone.

Day Three

We enjoyed our anchorage in McCormack's Cove.  We left for Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club around 11:00 am.  It was really nice on the water.  While at RKYC we filled up our water tank and pumped out.  A friend met us there and brought timbits and a coffee.  It might be a while before seeing a Tims again.  We left RKYC around 12:20 pm heading for the Reversing Falls.  We caught the inward run at slack tide at exactly 1:00 pm.  It was perfect timing.  There was a beautiful cruise ship in the harbor and it made us look quite small.  The water was quite choppy, oh well...we are not in a river anymore.

Our goal was to reach Haley's Cove.  However, since we were making good time, we decided to keep going.  We made it to Maces Bay which is the other side of Point Lepreau.  We are now travelling in waters we have not travelled in before.  This is very exciting.  We will be planning our trip for tomorrow later this evening.

Looks a lot like our boat, right???

I did take a video of us going through the Reversing Falls but it wouldn't upload to the site.  So, I will check that and if I am able I will post it tomorrow.

Day One & Day Two

We finally made it out of the marina.  Hip Hip Hooray!!!!  We had a lot of friends and family, plus three dogs, come to see us off and wish us well.  We started out about 12:15 or so.  Two of our friends D & S followed us on the river until the Burton Bridge.  It was so nice to see them along side of us.  E & F followed along on the highway until the Country Pumpkin.

We travelled at a speed of about 7-8 knots, our usual speed, not being speed demons.  We stopped at Shampers Anchorage for the night.  It was a great spot.  It rained most of the evening and night but we woke up to calm waters and sunshine.  We had a few things we wanted to do on the boat before we headed to McCormack's Cove to anchor again.    We will be going through the Reversing Falls on Wednesday about 1:00 p.m.

Our Adventure

We first became interested in doing America's Great Loop five years ago.  We were watching a show on HGTV in which they referenced the inter coastal waterway.  We looked it up and were intrigued.  From there, we learned about America's Great Loop and were immediately interested.  We jointed the America's Great Loop Cruisers Association and started planning our trip.

One of the first things we had to do was find a suitable boat. At the time we owned a 32 foot Bayliner.  We decided that although it was loop capable it was not loop comfortable.  We did a lot of on-line shopping and after viewing quite a few boats in the US and a beautiful one in Ontario we decided on a Carver 460.  We continued to shop around for boats, looking mostly for Carvers.  The first time we saw a Carver 396 we were hooked.  It had everything we wanted for space, features and "curb appeal".  We found one Carver 396 in Ontario but just couldn't get the deal put together.  Needless to say, we were very disappointed.  I fully believed, all along, that when we were ready to buy the right boat would be there for us.  Living in New Brunswick we did a lot of travelling trying to find the right boat.  Within a week I found our boat in our home province and at a price we had budgeted.  The previous owner was amazing and our dream became a  reality.

We named our boat the "Foxy Flamingo".  We first saw the name in Nags Head, North Carolina while on vacation.  It was an amazing Boutique called the Foxy Flamingo Boutique.  We contacted the owners and asked if we could use their logo and name.  They very graciously allowed us that privilege.  We plan on visiting them when we get to North Carolina.

We will be leaving for North Carolina on October 7th.  The crew consists of the Captain, my husband, the Admiral, me and our beautiful little French Bulldog, Cora.  We have allowed ourselves two months to get to our destination.  Once there we will spend the winter months, December to March in the Northwest Creek Marina in North Carolina, and then head north to start the Great Loop.

I will begin blogging our trip south once we leave on the 7th.  In the next few days I will add a few pictures of our boat.
